Indoor Air Quality

Nearly everyone has heard about air pollution. Exhaust from cars and smog from other contaminants can affect the air we breathe. Did you know that there are indoor air pollutants as well? The Environmental Protection Agency has ranked indoor air pollution among the top five environmental risks to human health.

Most Americans spend an estimated 90 percent of their time indoors and over 50 percent of that time is spent in their homes. Modern construction technology, along with our need to conserve energy, has led to our present day tightly sealed homes. Unfortunately, in the process of sealing in our conditioned air, we also seal in the mold, pollen, bacteria and other contaminates that exist in virtually all of our indoor air.

What pollutes the air?
  1. Particles – pollen, pet dander, dust mites and dirt
Particles measure less than 100 microns in diameter.
  2. Organism – bacteria, viruses, mold and fungi
Microscopic living organisms grow and reproduce in warm, humid places.
  3. Odors & Chemical Vapors – pet odors, cooking smells, perfumes, tobacco smoke, chlorine, cleaning supplies, paint and solvents
Air contaminants can be in the form of gases.

At Stewart’s Heating and Air, we offer products to help with all of these indoor air pollution issues.
